Highlights
Depart New York and arrive in Warsaw, Poland (3 nights) where students will visit not only the city's cultural centers but also encounter the historic places of the Warsaw Ghetto including the Umschlagplatz, Jewish Cemetery, and Nozyk synagogue. From Warsaw, traveling by train, the tour moves to Krakow (2 nights) where we will explore the Jewish Quarter (Kazimierz) and its synagogues, the Jewish ghetto, Oskar Schindler's factory, and Plaszow forced labor camp. The trip culminates in Oswiecim (2 nights), the town nearest to Auschwitz. In addition to learning about life in Oswiecim, students will visit Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp as well as its sub-camps, including Monowitz.

"Criminal Justice in London"

Highlights
Students have a great opportunity to follow the origin of American policing which is solidly grounded in England, with Sir Robert Peel's principles of policing and the creation of the Metropolitan Police Act in 1829. We will visit Westminster Abbey, enjoy a cruise on the Thames, explore the Tower of London where many criminals spent their last days on earth, and even walk in the footsteps of "Jack the Ripper" during an evening tour.

Rounding out the trip students will visit Parliament, the Old Bailey Criminal Court, Sherlock Holmes Museum and the London Police Museum home to many artifacts related to policing through the ages. Everyone will see the famous Buckingham Palace and watch the changing of the guard. Students will get a great bird's eye view of the city while riding on the "London Eye."

"Sex and Drugs in Amsterdam: Cultural Acceptance and Pragmatic Social Policy"

Highlights
There is more to Amsterdam than tulips, cheese, and windmills. This progressive city in the Netherlands is defined by its tolerance, openness, and respect for individual uniqueness. Students who are eager to take a fresh look at the world and themselves will enjoy this 10-day study abroad trip exploring a culture that has a harm reduction approach to what can be argued are 'victimless' deviant behaviors/crimes, specifically drugs, prostitution, and homosexuality. This study abroad program will include cultural excursions, field-based service learning experiences, and informative lectures.

Cultural excursions will include tours through some of the city's most famous sites (including Amsterdam's canals, Anne Frank's house, and the Red Light District) and informative visits to museums and information centers (including the Sex Museum – the Temple of Venus, the Hash Marihuana and Hemp Museum, Cannabis College, the Prostitute Information Center, the International Gay and Lesbian Information Centre and Archives, and the Trimbos Institute).

In addition, students will have opportunities to observe the work of, or volunteer with, organizations working with populations engaged in drug use, prostitution and/or non-heterosexual/alternative sexual behavior.

"The Holocaust"

Highlights
Our 10-day trip begins in Warsaw where we will learn what life was like in Nazi-occupied Poland. We will study not only how the Nazis murdered on an industrial scale but also how societies choose to memorialize and remember genocide. We will visit the Pawiak Prison - the infamous detention center where Jews and Poles were held during the Nazi occupation - and the Museum of the Jewish Historical Institute and walk along the Path of Jewish Remembrance to the Monument to the Heroes of the Ghetto. We will directly confront the Holocaust by touring two of the most infamous labor and death camps: Treblinka and Auschwitz-Birkenau.

In Krakow, we will walk through the Jewish Quarter and tour Oscar Schindler's factory. In addition to our study of the Holocaust, participants will learn about Jewish and Polish culture and visit a number of important cultural sites in Warsaw and Krakow. In the evenings, our group will partake in traditional eastern-European music and cuisine.

Highlights
The opportunity and challenge that South Africa faces as an emerging democratic and multiracial society serves as the context of this Summer Session program abroad. South Africa is breathtaking in its beauty, plentiful in its natural and human resources, and exceptional in its diversity and cultural richness. Located at the most southern point of Africa, this recently democratized nation stretches from the falls of the Limpopo River in the northeast to the southern cape coast where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. During the Summer Session program, students will spend 14 days in July studying and traveling throughout South Africa. The program includes cultural excursions, a field-based service learning experience.

Cultural excursions will include visits to universities, community service agencies as well as historically and ecologically important sites in the Johannesburg areas. The group will also visit Cape Town and see the majestic view from the top of Table Mountain, visit the most southwesterly point on the African continent (Cape of Good Hope) as well as Robben Island (the prison where Nelson Mandela spent most of his incarceration), and experience the rich cultural diversity of the South African people in this region.
