About MCCC Athletics

Mercer County Community College has experienced more than half a century of intercollegiate athletics excellence. The Vikings storied sports history includes 14 national championship teams (with titles in men’s basketball and soccer and women’s tennis), and almost 250 student athletes achieving All-American honors (including more than 50 two-time winners). As significantly, over the past decade 55 Mercer student athletes have been recognized as Academic All-Americans.

The Vikings are members of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX and the Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC). Mercer currently offers intercollegiate competition in men’s and women’s basketball, soccer and tennis; men’s baseball and lacrosse; and women’s softball.

In addition to the 14 NJCAA national championship teams, over the more than five decades of intercollegiate competition MCCC has won numerous conference and regional championships and advanced in district and national tournaments. In addition to the almost 250 NJCAA All-Americans, hundreds more Vikings student athletes have been selected as all-conference and all-region players. Many Mercer student athletes successfully transfer to four-year colleges and universities throughout the country, often continuing their sports careers, and some have gone on to play professional sports and/or pursued careers in coaching and education.

In addition to their success on the playing field, Mercer student-athletes know that to further their collegiate career they must excel in the classroom. Each athlete must agree to academic monitoring and requirements. Progress reports are communicated between the athletic department and faculty advisors. Tutoring is available when necessary, and all support systems are offered to student-athletes to help them achieve academic success.
