How can the career development office help you?

Major/Career Exploration: It is important to work on choosing a path that will help you make the most of your skills and realize a career that suits you. While the career office will not make any decision for you, we have a wealth of resources available. Start by taking a career assessment on CAREER COACH. This will match you to possible career choices and help you to start thinking about a path to take. Career Coach also offers detailed education requirements, live job postings related to your fields of interest, employment trends, and a free resume builder.

One to One Career Counseling: Meet directly with the career coordinator to discuss your goals and get direct advice about what programming and resources may be most helpful for you.

Job/Internship Search Assistance: The career office does not currently offer job or internship placement to any student. We do however has access to trusted sites and resources to share with you to make the most of your search.

Job Search Preparation: Be sure you are prepared in todays competitive job market with an updated cover letter/resume, job search skills, interview preparation, salary negotiation and a understanding of the skills sought out in your field.

On Campus Career Activities: Stay in touch! Our office sponsors a variety of informative activities each semester including career panels, job/internship fairs, in class workshops and more. Announcements will be made via direct emails, your professors, our website and flyers posted around campus.

Work Based Learning Opportunities: Curious about what it looks like to work in certain field? Our WBL coordinator offers several trips off campus to local companies each semester. During these trips you will meet with professionals in your field of interest, learn about their roles and see what the work environment is like. Alumni

Already a Mercer graduate? You are welcome to meet with any time to learn about updating and upgrading your job search skills, cover letter , resume and more.

Employers

Partner with us to help provide key career development resources including access to local jobs/internships, career exploration, panels, work based learning and more.

JOB/INTERNSHIP FAIRS: Capture a large and diverse audience by attending our fairs right here on the Mercer campus. Typically held in the Fall or Spring semester.

JOB/INTERNSHIP POSTINGS: Post your current job openings online via CAREER COACH or in person on our job board. Our office will review all jobs for legitimacy and adherence to our non discrimination requirements.

WEEKLY ON CAMPUS RECRUITMENT: Staff a table on campus to meet directly with students to promote your open job/internships. Available Fall/Spring during the week.

COLLEGE WIDE CAREER WORKSHOPS: Join us to participate in college wide career information panels, resume workshops, job skills classes and more.

MENTORING: Are you looking to give back? Our office is always seeking professionals who are willing to guide our students towards career success on their journey to becoming future professionals. Partner with us to share your expertise by mentoring a group of students here!

CAREER ADVISORY BOARD: This board is a group of local professionals, staff and students who can help keep the career office up to date on what our companies need from students looking to enter into the workforce. Participation includes a one year appointment typically starting in July, availability to attend regularly scheduled meetings at the MCCC campus and participation in career events throughout the year is required.

WORK BASED LEARNING: If you company is open to onsite visits from our students to explore the work environment of their chosen field please contact our WBL coordinator: Karen Adams, adamsk@mccc.edu.

MCCC CAREER CLOSET DONATION: The Career Closet is a free clothing check out service for students and alumni who need professional attire to wear to an interview or job fair. Donate your gently used professional attire to our Career Closet today. Will take all sizes. This service is sponsored and managed by our Student Life and Leadership department. Please connect with them directly to schedule a drop off time

Use this search tool to explore potential academic majors and careers. Select a career that suits your interests and learn about educational requirements, job prospects and wages - all localized to the Mercer County region. You'll also get to view current job postings in the area and develop your own resume.

Career Coach provides valuable information to help you set your career goals:

Education: The educational requirements for a career and the specific programs Mercer offers to help you start on your career path

Employment Trends: The number of jobs in the area in a specific occupation and recent employment trends in that field, providing you with insight into the prospects for employment once you complete your education

Earnings: Regional wage information for specific careers, giving you an overview of the earning potential in that field

Job Postings: Current regional job postings, providing you with a better understanding about jobs in the field and what employers are looking for in their employees

Career Closet

Help our Student Dress for Success!!!

An integral part of preparing for a job fair or interview is being confident and dressed well! The office of Student Life and Leadership opened the Career Closet in 2020 as a free professional clothing pick up for our students and alumni. The closet is conveniently located right on the Mercer campus in our Student Center and accessible to those who would like to shop. We are always seeking donations from our employer partners to help maintain its successful run and keep the closet stocked.
