Who Must Test

Students enrolling at Mercer may be required to take a placement assessment. Available online, the assessment will be used to help make placements into English classes. Placements into Math courses are made by assessing a student's previous coursework and other factors. A small number of students may be asked to take a placement test to show their readiness for Pre-Calculus or Calculus. Placement test results will not affect admission to the college; however, the scores will determine eligibility for certain courses and programs.

The following students are advised to take an assessment to help with placement decisions:

Arrangements for Testing

Before doing any placement assessment, please complete a Mercer County Community College admissions application.

After completing the admissions application, those who learned English as their first language take the course placement assessment -- Guided Self Placement & Collaborative Assessment (GSPCA). There is only one attempt permitted for the GSPCA.

If suggested by an advisor, the placement tests for Pre-calculus or Calculus may be taken at the Academic Testing Center at the West Windsor Campus (609-570-3295 or e-mail wwtesting@mccc.edu) or the Testing Center at the James Kerney Campus (609-570-3151 or e-mail jkctesting@mccc.edu) by appointment.

Special accommodations for testing may be arranged through the Center for Inclusion, Transition and Accessibility at 609-570-3422.

Students who have learned English as a second language must arrange to take the placement test by contacting their preferred testing location: the Academic Testing Center at the West Windsor Campus (609-570-3295 or e-mail wwtesting@mccc.edu) or the Testing Center at the James Kerney Campus (609-570-3151 or e-mail jkctesting@mccc.edu).

The ESL Placement Test is available routinely by appointment during our office hours at the Academic Testing Centers on both campuses. We are additionally able to accommodate walk-ins most days at the West Windsor Campus Academic Testing Center.
