Year In Review

The MCCC men's basketball team enjoyed a very successful season and earned their first trip to the Division II National Tournament in 10 years under second year Head Coach Howard Levy.  Though the Vikings were knocked out of the tournament following two early losses, Levy hopes this experience will help his returning players to elevate their play to make the trip to Danville an annual event each season.  The biggest thrill of the year came when MCCC defeated heavy favorite Lackawanna 79-69 on their home court to capture the Region 19 Championship and advance to the National Tournament.  The Vikings were also Co-Champions of the Garden State Athletic Conference, finishing the year with a 20-14 record. In addition to earning MVP Honors for the Region 19 Tournament, sophomore Uros Kovacevic (Kator, Montenegro) earned First Team All-GSAC and Second Team All-Region 19 Honors while sophomore teammate Paco Boussougou (Gabon, Africa) earned First Team All-GSAC Honors.  Boussougou earned a Division II scholarship to Franklin and Pierce University next season, while Kovacevic also earned a Division II scholarship, his to Chestnut Hill College.  A third member of the men's team attending a Division II school is Quentin Loftin (Florence, NJ/Florence Twp. Memorial HS), who will attend East Stroudsburg University and play football.  The Vikings also had big performances throughout the season from sophomores Derek Williams (Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro HS), Marcus Jimenez (Vineland, NJ/Vineland HS), and Aaron Smitheman (Burlington City, NJ/Burlington City HS).  The Vikings will look for strong play from returning players Isaiah Andrews (Florence, NJ/Burlington Twp. HS), Anthony Obery (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark HS), and Gary Carthan (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Regional HS) who saw a lot of minutes this season as well as returning players Arlington Rowley (Newark, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep), Quincy Hendryx (Hamilton Twp., NJ/Rancocas Valley HS), and Kevon Cornwall (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark HS).
