Mercer baseball (37-6) captured the Region 19 Championship with a 17-3 win over Lackawanna in the final game of the double elimination tournament at Del Tech Owens.  Freshman Matt Gall (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) struck out 7 in 8 innings to move to 6-1 on the season and sophomore Charles Morreale (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) closed out the game with a shutout 9th inning.  Freshman Shane Monahan (Levittown, PA/Truman) had a big day at the plate, hitting for the cycle and finishing with 6 RBIs.  Freshman James Rice (Middlesex, NJ/Immaculata) had 3 RBIs and sophomore Heath Fillmyer (Roebling, NJ/Florence Twp.) added 2 RBIs in the win.  Freshmen Edward Ashley (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and Joe Santospago (Doylestown, PA/Archbishop Wood) each had 2 hits and an RBI and freshman Greg Santora (Southampton, NJ/Seneca) added an RBI in the win. With the win, the Vikings advance to the District Championship, where they host Cecil, MD in a best 2 of 3 series and the winner gets a bid to the NJCAA Division II World Series.
