Preview: Women's Basketball
11/18/11
West
Windsor, N.J. -- With a short roster to start of the season
- just seven players - Head Coach Mike Tenaglia is envisioning
a challenging first half to the women's basketball season.
"We open Nov. 19 at home against Harcum College, which
won the region last year," Tenaglia says, who begins
his 22nd season at Mercer. "We are preparing for some
tough competition, but we plan to work hard, and will compete,
as always, with the regional title as our goal." He notes
that several strong additional players are expected to join
the roster in January.
Three sophomores are returning for the Lady Vikes: Chelsea
Holman (Nottingham HS), Chanel Johnson (Hamilton West HS),
and Allicia Pickett (Bordentown Regional HS). Tenaglia says
he will count on these team leaders to help replace scoring
powerhouses Alexis Sweet, who is in the record books as one
of only four Mercer women to score 1,000+ points, and Azaria
Crews, as well as forward Marelys Williams. The Lady Vikes
finished last season with an 18-12 record and the Garden State
Athletic Conference title.
Tenaglia
will be assisted by Jane Berlinger and Samantha Cobbs.
