WEST WINDSOR,
N.J. - The rubber match will determine the Region 19 men's basketball
championship.
Mercer County
Community College will play Lackawanna Junior College at its home
court in Scranton, Pa., on Tuesday, March 2, with the winner claiming
the region title and advancing directly to the National Junior College
Athletic Association Division II tournament in Danville, Ill. Tipoff
is 5 p.m.
MCCC last won
the Region 19 title and played at the national championship tournament
during the 1997-98 season under then-head coach Bud Livingston.
During the regular
season, the Vikings lost at Lackawanna, 90-76, on Nov. 24, but won
the return game at MCCC, 63-60, on Jan. 28.
MCCC has a 19-12
record under second-year coach Howard Levy. The Vikings, led by
sophomore guard Uros Kovacevic (Montenegro) and sophomore center
Paco Boussougou (Gabon), reached the final by defeating Essex County
College, 70-64, in the Region 19 first round, and Delaware Tech-Stanton,
76-68, in the semifinals.
