Women’s Basketball Players Warm Up at Princeton University for MCCC’s “Think Pink Night" Feb. 4

2/4/16

West Windsor, N.J. – Just days after the Mercer County Community College (MCCC) women’s basketball team had to postpone its Jan. 26 "Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Night" until Feb. 4, the players still found a way to support the cause.

Five members of the Vikings squad did a warm-up for tonight’s “Think Pink Night” by volunteering at the Princeton University women’s basketball game versus Yale on Jan. 30. The event was co-hosted by the Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC) of the YWCA-Princeton.

Sophomores Dana Davies and Brianna Gurdon, freshmen Delila Mena, Mani Rivera-Kissling and Nyeema Woodall, and Assistant Coach Jane Berlinger sported pink tee shirts at Jadwin Gym where they sold BCRC accessories, helped guests at the “Think Pink” photo booth and collected donations during halftime.

It was all to raise funds for the volunteer-based organization that provides support services to those affected by breast cancer and their families.

And tonight, the Lady Vikes will support the cause again on their home court as they face Union County College at 6 p.m. in the West Windsor Campus gym. The evening includes a BCRC informatioin display table in the gym lobby, a raffle drawing and halftime ceremonies. The community is encouraged to attend.

MCCC Administrative Assistant Erin Cahill-Wetzel worked with Assistant Coach Jane Berlinger and BCRC Event Coordinator Laura Martin to arrange the Princeton outing.

“We wanted our players to make a more hands-on difference for BCRC and to meet some of the people they are helping,” Cahill-Wetzel said, noting that during the MCCC event, the players are busy getting the job done on the court and have less time for volunteer assignments.

Martin praised the Mercer women following Princeton’s Think Pink Night in a post to the BCRC Facebook page. “Thanks to the Mercer County Community College women’s basketball team and their awesome coach for coming out to support BCRC at the Princeton game, right after playing one of their own game.  We couldn’t have done it without you.  You all rock!”
