Two-Sport Athlete Dana Davies Is MCCC’s “Woman of the Year” in Athletics

2/24/16

West Windsor, N.J. – Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC’s) Dana Davis, of Hamilton, was one of 14 student-athletes from New Jersey's community colleges to receive "Woman of the Year" recognition at the National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration held at Seton Hall University in February. The annual event is hosted by the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women as part of the observance of National Women in Sports Day.

Davies, a graduate of Nottingham High School, was a midfielder for the women’s soccer team and a guard for women’s basketball for the past two seasons. A leader on both squads, she helped the women’s soccer team advance to the Region 19 championship game this season and to the semi-final last year. At the conclusion of the 2015 soccer season, she was named to the All-Garden State Athletic Conference First Team and the All-Region 19 Second Team.

"A two-sport athlete in this day and age is an amazing commitment," said John Simone, MCCC's Athletics Director. "Dana was always the first to arrive at practices and the last to leave. She was a key contributor in both sports and was an outstanding team leader and example for her teammates."

Davies says it was all worth it. "I loved being able to continue to play during college. It was an awesome experience." Davies played soccer and basketball at Nottingham High School before coming to Mercer.

Davies is studying Business Administration and was named to the MCCC Dean's List and Region 19 All-Academic Team last year. She plans to transfer for her bachelor’s degree after earning her MCCC degree this year.
