West Windsor, N.J. – Zena Aluboudi is ready for Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) women’s basketball team to hit its stride. Though the team has endured tough losses to start the season, the sophomore forward is pushing her teammates to trend towards positivity.
“We’ve been competitive so far this season, but we’re still learning how to play together and strengthening our chemistry,” Aluboudi said. “We are working to find our flow every single day. I want everyone to look back and say, ‘yeah, I was proud to be a part of this team.’”
Through the start of the season, Aluboudi has been encouraging her teammates by steadily improving her game. After going for just two points in each of the first two games of the season, she doubled that mark in her third game, then again in her fourth. On Nov. 12, Aluboidi shot 100 percent from the floor, including two 3s, against Middlesex County College.
“Zena leads by example,” Head Coach Mike Tenaglia said before the Lady Vikings’ Dec. 12 victory over the County College of Morris. “She is always competing and pushing herself, in games, in practice and in the classroom – this semester she has been taking honors courses.”
During the Fall 2019 semester, Aluboudi’s schedule features a pair of honors courses: Sociology and History. The extra workload supports her post-Mercer goals, which include transferring to Rutgers University – Newark.
“Ideally, I’ll transfer and be able to continue my studies and playing basketball,” Aluboudi said. “I want to get as much experience as I can. The best is yet to come.”
Following the holiday break, Aluboudi and the Lady Vikings will return to their home court on Jan. 16 to host Valley Forge Military.
